I did not enjoy listening to this book. While I do believe that it does contain some valuable advice, listening to it was like being subjected to an 8 hour long infomercial. I've already bought the book I don't need to be sold on it! The author seems to spend a lot of time convincing the reader to listen to him. It's also very, very repetitive with key words and phrases like "predictable, repeatable process" being repeated over and over.

Manure. Rubbish. Certainly not worth your time. I blindly recommend any other book on influence out there over this trifle.

The topic is a good one and the thesis of the author laudable, but the book is too long. Rather, the summary below should be all you need to know to extract the substance of this book (spoiler alert!!!): To change minds, (1) understand where your subject is in the decision making process, (2) leverage psychology and (3) don't forget to behave ethically.More specifically:1- Be genuine: to convince someone, it helps to be genuinely convinced that you are here to help2- Understand where your subjec [...]

A good read. I don't necessarily agree with every step in the ethics section - given that it does not acknowledge that sometimes, even though you BELIEVE you are in the right, you may not be and that you need to give others credit for their own autonomy. Other than that, I found this book surprisingly helpful in understanding now only how to talk to people (I'm admittedly pretty bad at this), but also in that I learned about myself. The author gives the reader permission to be human, which is so [...]

Just lost interest on this one, probably because it was more focused on sales and trying to translate it to regular life became tiring.

الكتاب بجد كان سئ مستفدتش منه غير انه ممل وكنت كل شوية بضغط علي نفسي علشان اكمله للاخر وفي الاخر والله مستفدتش منه نهائي

Jolles does do a good job of breaking down "How people make decisions" into individual and fairly recognizable steps. There are also scripts/role plays for most of the steps in the various frameworks, and I found those helped me the most with imagining and figuring out how I would execute whatever process in the real world. I also disagree with many reviewers who said they have difficulty seeing how this would apply OUTSIDE of a sales context Actually, all of the scripts are for non-sales scenar [...]

I'm not even halfway through this book and I'm sure it will never redeem itself. Usually I wouldn't buy this kind of a book without it having a solid recommendation. I must've been drunk or something because I swear it had a higher rating and good reviews. While telling a story to make a point is fine, the author is incredibly rambling and repetitive. Not in a helpful, "learn by example" kind of way, more in a, "I'm getting paid per word so let me inflate this as much as possible" way. He seemed [...]

Starts with ethical and moral aspects of behavior. Understand decision process - want to change, identify the reason (problem) for change, research - check out how to solve the problem.Ask questions and listen to create trust.Get a commitment by working for the right to ask for someone to commit to a change by listening to concern and what they want to do about it. 4 steps - 1. check if agree that benefits of commitment will result in desired results, 2. ask for highest realistic commitment - si [...]

This book is very well written and details how to influence others. Other reviewers are correct in that it has a focus on sales, but the principles can be applied elsewhere. I was torn between 3 and 4 stars. 3 stars because while the ideas are good, you can read about them in so many other books. 4 stars because it is well written and very easy to read. Many books nowadays focus too much on telling stories. The reader may be entertained by them in the best case, but bored by them in the worst ca [...]

The book was good in general but was really hard to finish reading! It lacks the excitement needed to go through such books, has some useful stories and some good ideas but wouldn't give it more than 3 stars. The title is misleading somehow! The book is basically about sales and convincing clients to buy what you sell, barely talking about "influence" in other areas of life.

Great read for Law Enforcement; has the basic techniques for acquiring a confession or getting someone to committing to changing for something better. Well written and well laid out in a step by step process that is actually useful for numerous purposes; sales, law enforcement; parents raising children, or even helping friends in need.

A book too long for some common senses. It is full of the author bragging about his own professional achievements while it is very thin on the subject matter. Sentences get repeated a lot without obvious gain on importance. Not worth the price placed on the cover. The author fails to change my mind, big time!

4 important stages to influence:Need: Ask questions care about the issue and relate how your product/service helps.Urgency: what if questions.Decision: be assertive and self-confident when suggesting a solution.Follow up: suggest a plan to start with one a day/week/month.

Seems like it is more targeted to sales people. Some points are easy to remember, others needs effort to remember the steps. overall, average read but good learning points!

Incredible well thought out book on influencing people. I will definitely be picking up this book again. The author lays out a process that is simple and repeatable!
